What does the cross-border vehicle check deliver?

International dealers and buyers face a structural problem when purchasing vehicles in Germany: they cannot inspect the vehicle themselves, have to trust the seller and have little recourse if something goes wrong. checkdenwagen.de takes over the on-site inspection directly at the German seller — with more than 100 standardised inspection points, digital paint-thickness measurement and OBD diagnostics. The report is delivered within 24 hours of the inspection and issued in English on request; Spanish and Portuguese are in preparation. A dedicated point of contact coordinates scheduling, communication with the German seller and report handover — without the buyer having to travel to Germany.

Why the German used-car market is attractive for international buyers

Germany is regarded across Europe as one of the most transparent used-car markets with the widest choice. The supply of full-service-history vehicles with an unbroken HU (German roadworthiness inspection) record is above average by European standards. Dealers from Spain, Portugal, Greece and increasingly from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands buy in Germany in a structured way to acquire vehicles with documented maintenance histories that can be resold at better margins in their home markets. This structural advantage, however, comes with an information problem: the buyer usually only sees the vehicle once it has already been paid for and transported — or has to travel for every viewing themselves. The cross-border check solves exactly this problem: we inspect the vehicle on site before the purchase decision is made.

What the report contains — and in which languages

The standardised inspection report from checkdenwagen.de covers all essential vehicle categories: bodywork and paint condition with digital thickness measurements, engine and drivetrain, chassis and brakes, electronics and the OBD fault memory, interior, and a document check. In addition, a test drive is carried out and its result recorded. The report is produced in German by default. On explicit request, the report can be provided in English — suitable for international buyers whose internal processes require English-language documentation. Spanish and Portuguese versions are in preparation; we will let you know the current status when you enquire. All measurements and findings are language-independent and form the documentary basis for the purchase decision.

One point of contact — from first contact to report handover

For international buyers, coordinating several service providers in a foreign country involves considerable effort. checkdenwagen.de addresses this with a clear principle: a dedicated point of contact handles the entire process chain. This includes making contact and coordinating the appointment with the German seller, carrying out the check, producing the report and handing it over directly to the buyer or their internal purchasing department. At no point in this process does the buyer have to communicate with the German seller or be on site themselves. Booking and coordination take place in German or English — by email or phone. For dealers with regular purchasing volume in Germany, tailored processes can be agreed that match the buyer's internal procedures.

Logistics and registration: what we deliver and what we coordinate on request

The core mandate of checkdenwagen.de is the independent vehicle inspection — not the logistics. Transport, export registration and deregistration in Germany are tasks that require their own specialist knowledge. On explicit request, we can, on a case-by-case basis, put you in touch with selected partners for registration and transport. This is not a standardised product and is not booked automatically; it is offered on request and after individual arrangement. As a matter of principle, we recommend keeping the vehicle inspection and the logistics conceptually separate: the check protects the purchase decision, the logistics protect the physical transfer. Both are important — but each has its own service provider. Get in touch if you are looking for an end-to-end solution; we will define the framework together.

Price framework and tailored rates for volume business

The single check for international buyers is based on the same fixed prices as the private-customer business: €289 (Standard) or €339 (Premium), each incl. VAT and incl. travel within Germany. For international buyers who regularly purchase vehicles in Germany and have a recurring inspection need, we discuss tailored rates — depending on volume, location concentration and desired service level. The initial enquiry is non-binding and free of charge.

Process: how a cross-border check works

01

Send your enquiry — in German or English

Tell us the vehicle location (postcode/address), the vehicle details and your language requirement for the report. The enquiry can be made by email or phone — in German or English. We get back to you with an assessment of availability and price before any binding booking is made.

02

Appointment coordination with the German seller

Our point of contact handles all communication with the seller in Germany. You do not have to coordinate anything yourself and do not have to be on site. The inspector arranges the viewing appointment directly with the seller.

03

On-site inspection — more than 100 points, approx. 1.5 hours

Our appraiser inspects the vehicle directly at the German seller. The inspection covers the bodywork, engine, chassis, electronics, interior, documents and a test drive. All findings are documented photographically.

04

Report within 24 hours — in the agreed language

Within 24 hours of the inspection you receive the complete digital report — in German or English, depending on the agreed language. The report contains all measurements, findings and photos and forms the basis for your purchase decision.

05

Purchase decision and optional logistics coordination

You decide on the basis of the report. If desired, we can — on request — put you in touch with selected partners for transport and registration. This step is handled separately and only after individual arrangement — not an automatic part of the booking.
