What is a Premium used-car inspection?

A Premium used-car inspection is the extended form of the independent on-site vehicle inspection — with market-price analysis, an itemised repair-cost estimate, a seller assessment and follow-up advice by phone in addition to the full technical inspection. checkdenwagen.de is an independent, Germany-wide provider of on-site used-car inspections, based in Berlin with a network of inspectors across the country. For the Premium check, an experienced automotive appraiser travels directly to the vehicle's location, inspects over 100 points for around 1.5 hours on-site and delivers a full digital report within 24 hours — including a repair-cost estimate and the vehicle's fair market value, taking all identified defects into account. The result is not a general assessment, but a concrete, verifiable basis: for the price negotiation, for the purchase decision or for walking away in an orderly fashion.

When is the Premium check worth it? When more is at stake.

Vehicles from €10,000

The higher the purchase price, the more expensive a mistake. For vehicles from €10,000, an independent market-price analysis almost always pays off: a single discount negotiated on the basis of our repair-cost estimate regularly exceeds the extra cost over the Standard check.

BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche & Co.

Premium brands have more complex technology, more expensive spare parts and a fragile service history. Anyone who skips a full repair-cost estimate on a used BMW 5 Series or E-Class is buying blind. Our inspector knows brand-specific weak points — and documents them with no sales interest.

Suspicion of accident damage

Bodywork photos in the listing tell you little. Our digital paint-thickness measurement reveals to the millimetre whether filler or resprays are present — even when the vehicle looks flawless. In the Premium report, every conspicuous finding is documented photographically and assessed.

Seller far away

If you'd have to drive 300 km or book a train for the viewing, our inspector takes over the on-site appointment — and the expert advice by phone after the check makes sure you can clear up every open question before you make a decision.

What the Premium check delivers

Digital paint-thickness measurement

Using a calibrated ultrasonic gauge, we measure the paint thickness on all relevant body panels — doors, fenders, bonnet, rear, roof. Conspicuously elevated readings indicate filler or a large-area respray, as is typical after accident repairs. In the Premium report you'll find a heatmap of the readings, photos of every conspicuous spot and a clear assessment of whether the damage is repair-relevant or value-reducing. This paint measurement on the used car is part of every one of our packages — in the Premium check it is documented in detail and priced directly into the repair-cost estimate.

Itemised repair-cost estimate

Every issue identified — body damage, brake wear, oil loss, a faulty sensor — is listed individually in the Premium report, prioritised by urgency and accompanied by a realistic cost range. No blanket assessment, no gut feeling: you can see what must be repaired right now, what will come up over the next twelve months and what you can ignore. The repair-cost estimate is the most effective argument in any price negotiation — concrete and independent.

Market-price analysis & fair vehicle value

What is the vehicle really worth — not according to the listing, but taking into account its condition, mileage, equipment and the current market environment? Our market-price analysis for used cars shows the vehicle's fair value based on current comparable listings and minus the estimated repair costs. That's your factual basis for questioning the asking price with figures in hand.

Seller assessment (seller trust score)

How does the seller behave on-site? Do the listing and reality match? Are defects actively concealed or openly communicated? Based on their direct interaction, our inspector assesses how trustworthy the seller appears — and records this transparently in the report. A low trust score is often the clearest warning sign, even if the vehicle is still technically sound.

OBD diagnostics & fault-memory readout

Error codes in the engine, transmission and driver-assistance control units are often cleared after a car wash or a fresh service. During the inspection appointment we read out the fault memory live — current and stored entries. Conspicuous codes are explained in the report and classified in terms of their repair relevance.

Expert advice by phone

After the check and once you've received the report, you have the chance to clear up any open questions in a phone conversation with the inspector. What does this reading actually mean? Would you buy the vehicle? How best to negotiate this defect? This consultation is reserved exclusively for the Premium check — and is especially valuable when you're far from the vehicle's location.

Full technical inspection (100+ checkpoints)

Bodywork, engine, drivetrain, transmission, suspension, brakes, interior, air conditioning, electrics and lighting — all worked through systematically over around 1.5 hours on-site. The same depth of inspection as the Standard check, but placed in full economic context through the repair-cost estimate and market-price analysis.

Digital report with photo documentation

You receive your full Premium report within 24 hours by email — structured, with photos of every issue, a heatmap of the paint thicknesses, the prioritised repair-cost list and the market-price assessment. The report is set up so you can read it without any technical background and use it directly as a basis for negotiation.

What the Premium check is not

The Premium check is a purchase-oriented on-site inspection by experienced automotive appraisers and TÜV-trained inspectors — not an official expert report and no substitute for the general inspection (HU) or the emissions test (AU). It does not replace a TÜV or DEKRA assessment with the award of a sticker, because that is not its purpose: while the HU checks whether a vehicle may safely be operated in road traffic, our report checks whether the vehicle is worth its purchase price. The repair-cost estimate provides realistic reference figures based on real-world experience — it is not a binding workshop quote. We do not provide a written purchase appraisal by a court-appointed expert for insurance or legal purposes.
