Accessibility
We are working to make Check den Wagen accessible to everyone — no matter what device or assistive technology you use.
1. Our Commitment
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at conformance level AA and the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BFSG), which from 28 June 2025 also applies to private service providers. Our goal: a website that is easy to use regardless of any impairment.
2. Conformance Status
This website is under development. We aim to achieve full conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA by the end of 2026. The website is currently partially conformant — some content and components are being revised right now. We document known barriers transparently and are working on fixing them on a prioritised basis.
3. Technical Measures
- Semantic HTML5 with a correct heading hierarchy and landmarks
- Full keyboard navigation (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Escape)
- Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
- Alt text for all meaningful images; decorative images are hidden semantically
- Colour contrasts in line with WCAG AA (text ≥ 4.5:1, large type ≥ 3:1)
- ARIA labels on icon buttons and complex components
- Responsive layout, zoom up to 200 % with no loss of information
- Respects prefers-reduced-motion for animations
4. Known Limitations
- Some older PDF inspection reports are not fully accessible — on request we provide an accessible HTML version
- A few complex graphics (e.g. the paint heatmap) currently have limited text alternatives
5. Assessment Approach
We combine automated tests (axe-core, Lighthouse) with manual review, including screen reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver) and keyboard navigation. An external conformance audit is also planned ahead of launch.
6. Reporting a Barrier
If you encounter a barrier or need content in an accessible format, please get in touch — we respond within one working day:
