Supercar Inspection Before You Buy: from €349 · on-site

A six-figure supercar is no ordinary purchase decision. Carbon damage, track-day wear, manipulated service histories and loss of originality can massively reduce the value — and are barely detectable without a specialist. Our independent on-site inspection gives you the facts before you sign.

What is a supercar inspection — and why is it indispensable?

A supercar inspection is a specialised, independent on-site assessment of high-performance vehicles such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Bugatti, Koenigsegg or Porsche GT derivatives — carried out by an experienced expert with expertise in the exotic segment. checkdenwagen.de is an independent provider of on-site used-car inspections operating throughout Germany, based in Berlin and with a network of inspectors across the country. Unlike with a series-production used car, the supercar inspection focuses on the risks specific to this segment: the condition of carbon body panels and monocoque structures, the wear curve of carbon-ceramic composite brake systems, track-day traces in the transmission and engine thermal management, the unbroken manufacturer service history, and the originality of all value-determining components, including matching numbers. The result is a detailed expert report that gives you a solid basis for your purchase decision and price negotiation — independent of the interests of the seller, dealer or broker.

The critical weak points in supercars

Carbon-ceramic brakes: condition and follow-up costs

Carbon-ceramic composite brake discs (PCCB, CCM, CCM-R) are a major value driver and one of the most expensive wear parts in a supercar. Cracks in the ceramic matrix, delamination of the carbon layers or glazing caused by overheating are barely visible from the outside. The cost of a complete replacement runs into five figures depending on the vehicle and axle. Our inspector visually assesses cracking, disc thickness, pad condition and overheating discolouration and flags any anomalies that call for a more in-depth workshop inspection.

Carbon body and monocoque damage

Supercars with a carbon monocoque or extensive carbon body panels are particularly vulnerable to visible damage — and often carry away invisible damage caused by grounding, ground contact or parking knocks. Hairline cracks in the carbon layup, detached layers (delamination) or repaired areas are barely identifiable without a UV lamp and expertise. A poorly repaired carbon structure can considerably compromise the vehicle's passive safety.

Dual-clutch transmission and clutch wear

Dual-clutch transmissions (DCT, PDK, e-Gear, SSG) in supercars react extremely sensitively to urban crawling traffic, thermal stress and incorrect operation by drivers unfamiliar with the vehicle. Clutch-plate wear, delayed shift response and jerking when pulling away are early warning signs that are easily ignored in regular use. The cost of a transmission overhaul cycle often exceeds the value of a conventional used car.

Track-day history and overheating traces

Many supercars are driven on race tracks — which in itself doesn't induce a malfunction, but statistically puts significantly more strain on the engine, transmission, brakes and suspension than road use. Sellers regularly conceal track outings or mention them selectively. Our inspector looks for physical traces: overheating marks on brake discs and callipers, scratches on underbody parts, damage to the undertray and splitters, and abnormal wear patterns on suspension components that point to intensive track use.

Underbody, front lift and underbody protection

The extremely low ride height of supercars makes underbody surfaces a constant wear candidate. Damage from ground contact, missing or damaged underbody panels and scratches on the diffuser, undertray or front splitter are common findings — and expensive to restore. Front-lift systems (hydraulic front-axle lift systems) are checked for function and leak points. Missing or non-functional lift systems signal mishandling of the vehicle or neglected maintenance.

Originality and matching numbers

In the supercar market, originality is a huge value factor. Non-original engine markings, replaced transmissions without complete documentation, non-manufacturer-compliant modified parts or missing certificates for special equipment can considerably reduce the market value. The inspector cross-checks the vehicle identification number, engine code and transmission number against the vehicle documents and checks whether add-on parts match the original delivery condition.

Paint, wrapping and paint-thickness measurement

Supercars are often fully wrapped, partially wrapped or fitted with Paint Protection Film (PPF) — which can conceal paint damage, repaints or structural body damage. The paint-thickness measurement is carried out through the film too, where accessible. The inspector documents the wrap condition, visible damage at the film edges and areas where a full assessment of the original paint isn't possible without removing the film — a clear point for the negotiation.

Tyres: special sizes, DOT and manufacturer approval

Supercars depend on manufacturer-approved tyre types and sizes — often proprietary developments created in collaboration with Pirelli, Michelin or Bridgestone. Non-approved tyres, incorrectly dimensioned replacements or a DOT age beyond the recommended usage limits are safety risks and, with some manufacturers, affect the warranty. The inspector documents the tyre brand, type, size, DOT code and tread depth and checks manufacturer compliance.

Workshop dependency: service exclusively at the franchised workshop

Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and comparable manufacturers require the complete service history at an authorised franchised workshop for warranty services and Certified Pre-Owned programmes. Gaps in the service booklet, workshop invoices from independent garages or undocumented inspections interrupt the manufacturer warranty and can retroactively jeopardise the CPO status. Our inspector checks the completeness, intervals and providers of every documented inspection.

Standing damage on collector's pieces

Supercars with low mileage and long periods of standing still — a typical profile in collector and investment holdings — develop specific damage: rubber seals harden and lose elasticity, brake callipers and discs rust on little-used vehicles despite carbon-ceramic, fuel systems deteriorate, and pressure loss in the tyres causes flat spots. Low mileage alone is not a mark of quality — the inspector assesses the vehicle in the context of its actual usage and storage history.

What the supercar inspection delivers — in detail

Over 100 checkpoints, weighted for exotics

Our standard inspection catalogue is extended for supercars with checkpoints specific to this vehicle class: carbon structure, ceramic brakes, track-day indicators, transmission assessment and originality verification. No step is skipped to save time.

Paint-thickness measurement and wrap analysis

Digital ultrasonic paint-thickness measurement on all accessible body panels — including through PPF or protective film where physically possible. Repaints, filler work and body damage under film are detected and documented as far as possible.

OBD diagnostics and control-unit analysis

Full fault-memory readout of all available control units: engine, transmission, ABS, ESP, active aerodynamics and suspension control. Cleared faults leave traces in readiness codes and fault counters — that's part of the inspection too.

Originality verification and document analysis

Cross-check of the vehicle identification number, engine code and transmission identifier against the vehicle documents. Examination of the service booklet, manufacturer warranty status, CPO certificates and delivery record for completeness, plausibility and gaps.

Track-day and intensive-use analysis

Systematic search for physical traces of track use: overheating indicators on brakes and engine, underbody marks, suspension wear and atypical OBD entries that point to intensive operating phases.

Digital expert report

Complete inspection report with annotated photos, measured values and a defect assessment — within 24 hours by email. Clearly structured, no technical jargon, ready to use in purchase negotiations and valuation-report communication.

What the inspection doesn't cover — and when you need more

The supercar inspection is a purchase-oriented, independent on-site assessment — not an official expert opinion, not a roadworthiness test (HU) and not a manufacturer certificate. It assesses the condition of the vehicle at the time of inspection on the basis of findings that are visible and accessible by measurement. Parts that lie entirely beneath panelling or underbody covers and are not accessible without dismantling cannot be fully assessed — in these cases the inspector explicitly points out the limited visibility. The same applies to fully wrapped body areas: the paint-thickness measurement provides plausible approximate values even through film, but does not replace removal of the film by the manufacturer. For vehicles where complete liability cover is required — for example for insurance purposes, inheritance disputes or court proceedings — we additionally recommend a chargeable vehicle appraisal by a sworn expert. Our inspection gives you the facts for an informed purchase decision, not a document with official evidentiary force.

Frequently asked questions about the supercar inspection

Supercars require specific expertise, an extended set of checkpoints and considerably more time on-site. Carbon structures, ceramic brakes, manufacturer-specific control-unit diagnostics and originality verification go far beyond the standard inspection of a series-production used car. The price is therefore calculated individually. A short conversation with us — by phone on 030 301 32 327 or via the enquiry form — gives you a concrete quote.

Buy your supercar on facts — not on hope.

Carbon damage, track-day wear and missing originality can cost more on an exotic than the entire purchase price of a mid-range car. Have your Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren inspected by an independent specialist — before you sign.
